"fans" are there so you can keep up with whoever you've fanned, and ya know i'm still not even sure about the $100 daily voting thing, so that will remain a mystery to me as well forever~

Fans are the people who've favourited it, they shall get notifications when you post new content which makes them more likely to check your stuff out.

The winner of the monthly 100$ is revealed every month in the "Best of" from whatever month you're in, it's a thread that Tom Fulp makes and you can even comment on it and shit, for example:

The Community tab on the header gives you access to the NG Forums (or BBS), they're the life of NG and lots of people go there to chat. The same tab also gives you access to the NG Calendar which has all upcoming events and holidays related to Newgrounds on them.

The searchbar can't be used to search for users as far as i know.
If you know the name of a certain user and you'd like to go to his profile really quickly just type theirname.newgrounds. com (example radaketor.newgrounds.com).
